Helen Wright, Founder

“Prior to having children, I spent a decade working as a broadcast journalist for the BBC and ITV, then 18 months running my own media training company. I have a degree in History from Durham University, and a Diploma in Journalism from Cardiff University. When the time came for me to get back into the workplace following a career break, I felt demoralised at the lack of flexible job opportunities out there. One afternoon in my local playground, I realised I was amongst accountants, lawyers, HR professionals… we were all in the same position. This frustration at seeing so many talented women excluded from the work place inspired me, and 9-2-3 Jobs was born. I’m a keen golfer and gin enthusiast, and a true flexible working advocate. I live in Oxfordshire with my husband and our three children.”

“I’ve worn a large number of hats through my career, but people are my ‘thing’, and building relationships is what I love doing. After a few years living and working in Sydney, I returned to the UK, became a mum, and found the pressure of juggling work/life/motherhood almost impossible: I felt I wasn’t performing in my role at work OR as a mother to my two gorgeous girls.  I joined 923 in 2017, and feel grateful every day that I have the job I do.  I am a passionate advocate of flexible working for all, and love that I get to promote this way of working on a daily basis.  Outside of work, I can be found traipsing through the woods after my six-month old Sprocker Spaniel, or ferrying my two girls to endless cricket matches!”

“Having completed a law degree, I decided it wasn't for me and went on to work in Retail Management for 17 years. When my two little monsters came along, suddenly working weekends and 7am on Boxing Day seemed wrong. I desperately wanted a role where I could use my brain, but also wanted to work with people who inspire me, and for a business that understands the importance of flexible working. 9-2-3 Jobs could not have been more perfect for me! I love people and have a passion for helping them find roles that work for them. Working flexibly helps me balance my family/work life and allows me to study for my CIPD as well. In my spare time I love spending time with my family and friends, and I may enjoy a glass of wine or two!”

After having my first child, I found it impossible to hit all the same targets as everyone else in four days, compared to my colleagues who were working five. The hours were long and I was sad about missing my daughter’s milestones - including her first steps. When my husband’s job took us to Florida for a few years, I took a career break - and discovered a love of margaritas and smores! 9-2-3 found me my first role when we returned to the UK, and I am so excited to now be part of the team - and still be there for my family. Flexibility is keeping me sane! To combat my love for drinking and eating I have been known to run the odd half marathon.”

I’ve 10 years of marketing communications experience. Armed with a degree in advertising and marketing, I began my career working in London marketing agencies before moving to Oxfordshire and taking on a B2B client-side role in the public sector. Following a career break to look after my young family, I found myself ready to return to work but unsure how to balance a career and kids. I knew I wasn’t alone, and that many parents faced the same dilemma, so I started looking for solutions and became engaged in the flexible working movement. When off duty (no work, no kids), I enjoy running, cooking, eating and drinking wine!

“My background has always been in marketing, and since leaving University in Manchester I gained some valuable experience working on both corporate and agency side in the industry. However, after having my first child I realised that a 9-5 would no longer work for me. After a five-year career break, and another child, I knew it was time to refresh my existing skills. So, I took the plunge and signed up to a Digital Mums course. Fortunately for me, part of the course allows you to have real on-the-job training with a client, which is how my 9-2-3 journey began. I now work remotely for the 9-2-3 team from my home in Farnham, Surrey - so I work when I'm at my most productive, and can still be there for the school run."

“After graduating from Sheffield University, I spent a decade working in communications, PR and publishing. I gained my CIPR Diploma in 2008, then, following the birth of my daughter, I knew that commuting into London and long days were no longer for me. So, I took a career break. One year turned into six, and after the arrival of my little boy, three house moves and a relocation from Essex to rural Northamptonshire, I finally felt it was time to get back into the workplace. I’m so pleased I took that leap, even though it was daunting at the time. I’m a passionate advocate of flexible working, I LOVE my job, I’m a runner, book worm, gin lover, occasional yoga enthusiast, and chocoholic.”

“I spent five years at City law firms before moving to an in-house legal role at London's Borough Market.  Although it was difficult to tear myself away from their famous brownies, I moved to Oxfordshire in 2015 and took a career break to spend time with my young family.  As my children grew older, I became excited about the prospect of returning to work; I love my role as part of the 9-2-3 team, and really feel inspired by the changes that are unfolding before my eyes in the world of work.”
